Fromagerie Bel selects Burkert fieldbus process valves

Tetra Pak has provided Fromagerie Bel's Cléry-le-Petit, France plant with a flow management system that adds an extra protein constituent to milk collected in the Meuse area.

Fromagerie Bel selects Burkert fieldbus process valvesThe protein is required to guarantee the quality of cheese produced from the milk, because the latter is relatively low in proteins. To solve this problem, new vats were installed with flow management handled by Agrifoodstuff valves controlled by 180 Bukert series 8681 control heads in a fieldbus-enabled distributed control system.

A Burkert spokesperson explains that these were selected because of their universal application, reliability and safety – and due to their suitability for aseptic environments. Also, Burkert's patented magnetic activation system provides easy and safe access to the control head for preventive maintenance.

These control heads can also be used on most process valves – including globe, butterfly, diaphragm and ball – delivering standardisation across the Cléry-le-Petit site.

Further, they offer control and diagnostic safety, thanks to remote visualisation of valve positions. The 8681 units execute all pneumatic commands, position feedback functions and diagnostics and, depending upon the process valve, can control up to three pneumatic chambers separately.

Fromagerie Bel is making best of this facility with a large-format colour display, which signals valve positions, operating errors, bus communication errors and mechanical blockages. Diagnostic data, such as the number of cycles between valve seal services and operating errors, are also displayed and archived in the control head.
