ABB launches BlackBerry app energy calculator

Following ABB's recent introduction of a free iPhone energy calculator app, the drives and motors giant has now launched an equivalent for the BlackBerry.

ABB launches BlackBerry app energy calculatorThe new app calculates energy savings plant engineers and managers can expect from installing variable-speed drives (VSDs) to control electric motors.

Neil Ritchie, local business unit manager for ABB in the UK & Ireland, explains that the app compares motors controlled by VSDs and motors running direct-on-line, without speed control.

You select your industry, the voltage, phase and motor power rating, and running hours and electricity cost. It then estimates how much CO2, energy and costs can be saved.

"By installing a variable-speed drive it is possible to reduce your energy spend by up to 70% on a single application," asserts Ritchie.

"The tool is free to download and makes selecting drives, according to the needs of the application, extremely accessible," he adds.
