Mark Prisk, Minister of State for Business and Enterprise, is set to launch the Automated Britain conference on 6 March at The Commonwealth Club in London.
 Being staged by GAMBICA (the association for the instrumentation, control, automation and laboratory technology industry) and Intellect (the trade association for the electronics manufacturing sector), the event is aimed at alerting industry, government and the media to the opportunities in automation technology for manufacturing companies.
Entitle Automated Britain – the Renaissance of UK Manufacturing, it is also being billed as a forum for exploring enablers and barriers to industry.
Other keynote speakers will include Juergen Maier, managing director of Siemens UK Industry, followed by other senior executives from companies including ABB, Emerson, Honeywell and Rockwell, jointly presenting successful case studies.
"In the Advanced Manufacturing Growth Review at the end of 2010, DBIS [the Department for Business, Skills and Innovation] recognised the importance of automation as a key technology in enabling globally competitive manufacturing operations to invest and grow in the UK," explains Steve Brambley, deputy director of GAMBICA.
And Marco Pisano, programme manager with Intellect, adds: "Smart automated systems and processes are not only essential in attracting foreign direct investments, but represent a key component to grow and rebalance the British economy.
"A combination of world-class R&D, both corporate and academic, and early adoption of automated technologies by UK-based modern manufacturers can accelerate economic recovery and unleash the potential for long-term prosperity in Britain."
GAMBICA and Intellect say the event is geared towards industry leaders in the UK manufacturing sector, senior strategists and decision-makers, investors, business consultants and government officials.
Cost is £245 for GAMBICA members and £750 for non members.
