Emerson Process Management is promising significant time and cost savings, with the introduction of online 'smart meter verification' for its Rosemount magnetic flowmeters.
This is an expansion of existing technology, delivering complete, on-line verification of device performance, and the company makes the point that plant managers can expect to eliminate outsourced calibration services and associated process interruptions.
Effectively, the technology comes embedded in the transmitter and covers the health of the sensor, electronics and its analogue loop. Measurement integrity feedback is delivered in less than two minutes and can be set to run continuously or on-demand.
Emerson asserts that additional benefits will include reduced trips to the field, leading to improved safety records. Also, because there is no need to break process seals to check on the health of devices, the technology reduces environmental impact.
