Mitsubishi set to launch intermediate range of PLCs

Mitsubishi Electric Automation Systems Division, which this month is celebrating 30 years of manufacturing variable speed drives, has a new marketing manager in the form of Amaechi Oduah.

Mitsubishi set to launch intermediate range of PLCsWith over a decade's experience in the telecommunications, electrical and electronic manufacturing sector, Oduah says automation was a strategic decision, as "manufacturing is set to be one of the best growth sectors in the medium and long term".

Oduah describes himself as a technophile, with an enthusiasm for electronic gadgets and the latest and future technology trends. "I want to be at the cutting edge of technology and that means being in the growth sectors and working for one of the market leaders like Mitsubishi Electric," he states.

"The critical thing about automation is not what the individual products and technologies can do but how much more they can do when they are designed into a fully integrated system," he adds.

"So automation is about understanding the clients' issues and developing solutions that not only solve current problems but which will evolve to meet their changing needs and demands."

All the more fascinating, then, that Oduah also indicates that plant engineers can look forward to another new range of PLCs, due for launch by Mitsubishi soon.

No details are yet available, other than that they will fill the supposed gap between Mitsubishi's higher end system-orientated PLCs and the 'brick' PLCs at the more modest end of plant and equipment automation.

Given that both PLCs and drives – and combination products – are now mature technologies, seeing few, if any, major developments, this one could be interesting.
