Fibre optics for plant valve actuation
May 2011 Email to a friend   Comment on this article
Electric actuators manufacturer Auma has launched a single-mode fibre optic interface that now covers up to 15km between field devices.

Fibre optics for plant valve actuationOther benefits include: resistance to EMC, meaning that data and supply lines can run in one duct; automatic redundancy; and virtual galvanic isolation for overvoltage protection.

The firm's latest systems also automatically evaluate signal quality during operation, alerting control operators via fieldbus, and cable checks are also integrated into the system's self-monitoring.

Actuators can be specified with the new fibre optics either in line or with star/loop topology.
