Plant decommissioning specialist EDS has been received the Site Preparation and Services Award 2011 for its work clearing Pfizer's UK Global Manufacturing Site in Kent.

EDS recognised for Pfizer plant demolition contractThe 340 acre Kent site was used by Pfizer for active pharmaceutical ingredients production and EDS was contracted to demolish and clear Zone B of the site. That involved cleaning process and piping equipment and PVA sealing of structures to prevent release of Selamectin materials during subsequent demolition.

Safe execution of this process was crucial as the site was only 100m from an adjacent river and a pin head of Selemectin released into the local watercourse could kill all marine life for 10 miles.

"Specialist, large scale, highly complex projects, such as that undertaken for Pfizer in Kent, are what EDS has built its reputation on and it is fantastic to be recognised at this level," states EDS managing director Darren Palin.
