30% rise in daily rates for oil and gas engineers

Day rates for oil and gas contractors increased by 30% last year (2010), indicating that the UK oil and gas industry is on a strong recovery curve following the tough times of 2008.

30 rise in daily rates for oil and gas engineersSo says Matt Underhill, managing director of Hays Oil & Gas, noting that contractor day rates are a good barometer of the state of the job market.

"There is a definite risk of skill shortages in the UK oil and gas market and it has not gone unnoticed," says Underhill, who believes that contractors will soon be demanding even higher daily rates.

Accordingly, SJD Accountancy, which has more than 10,000 contractor clients on its books (many of whom are oil and gas engineers), has launched an oil and gas engineer resource centre on its website.

The new web pages provide advice on becoming an oil and gas engineer, the benefits, rates of pay and finding a contract with Cheveron Texaco, Worldmald Tyco, Technip, Talisman, ConocoPhilips, Wood Group, Hydrasun, Subsea7, Shell, Exxon Mobil and BP.
