Thames Water has installed a Mono EZstrip transfer pump at its Beckton sewage treatment works to improve efficiency and reduce downtime of the pump station.
 Dave Rudman, maintenance team manager at Thames Water, explains that the progressing cavity pump, which has been mounted vertically, has been installed to transfer returned sludge to the buffer tanks at a capacity of 90m3/hr and a delivery pressure of 4 bar.
"After seeing the EZstrip in action at one of Mono's road shows last summer, I decided to specify one for the site," says Rudman.
"As well as the speed with which the rotor and stator can be replaced, [it] could be mounted vertically, which was an added bonus, due to the building's restricted space.
Rudman says that since it was installed, the pump has been running smoothly. "We are very happy with its performance. It was also a major advantage that Mono could manage the whole installation," he says.
Mono's EZstrip pump is claimed to be the biggest leap forward in progressing cavity pump design for 30 years. It was designed for quick and easy disassembly, de-ragging and maintenance – eliminating the costs and downtime associated with normal servicing.
