Field level Ethernet
March 2010 Email to a friend   Comment on this article
Gigabit Industrial Ethernet has been extended to field level plant devices by the new CC-Link IE Field, which brings ultra high speed, 'open' connectivity to whole automation systems. The new system complements the controller level IE network, launched less than a year ago, and allows for a new and easier scale of integration from shop floor to top floor.

It uses Ethernet to transfer data seamlessly between the networks that make up a control system. CC-Link IE field runs at 1Gbps but over Cat 5e cable.
