Wireless GPRS comes to motor condition monitoring

Artesis' MCM (motor condition monitor) predictive maintenance system, for motors and driven equipment, now includes wireless technology.

Wireless GPRS comes to motor condition monitoringIt's aimed at applications in remote, hazardous or inaccessible locations; it delivers automatic condition assessment reports; and can be customised.

Artesis director Andy Bates explains that it uses intelligent GPRS modems to bring fault diagnostics to places other condition monitoring equipment cannot reach – and "at a fraction of the effort and cost".

Early interest, he says, is expected from the water, transportation, and oil and gas sectors.

"The key benefit is that in-depth condition assessments, containing detailed information about the nature and severity of all faults detected, are automatically created and communicated to the [maintenance] team. More importantly, the reports also contain recommendations on the timescale of remedial actions," says Bates.
