Revolutionary gearing generates power without noise

A small coaxial drive gear head from Maxon Motor introduces a new style of gearing capable of producing exceptionally low noise levels.

Revolutionary gearing generates power without noiseIts Koaxdrive KD 32 uses both a worm-formed motor pinion and planetary gearing to deliver formidable torque in almost total silence – even with high input loads.

Maxon says the real innovation is in the first gear stage, where most noise is usually generated: three offset wheels, driven by a helical pinion, interlock with a straight-cut internal gear.

Maxon's patented use of a sliding mechanism takes axial load off the motor shaft, dramatically reducing contact sound and allowing the gear head to operate happily, even at speeds of 8,000rpm. The planetary gears then provide high reduction rates in a single gearbox, with a number of ratio options available.

Output is up to 6.5Nm of torque with an outer diameter of just 32 mm, making it attractive in the luxury car market and medical devices sector.
